DW 2000 Double Pedal

The DW 2000 double pedal is a pocket-friendly alternative if the DW 5000 or 9000 pedals are out of your reach. A simple design, there are many features lifted from Drum Workshop’s original flagship pedal from the 5000 series.

First of all, let’s look at the Cam-drive; a simple toothed-sprocket system in their classic off-set ‘Accelerator’ shape which takes a single-chain assembly to drive the beater. Believe it or not, back in the early 1980s when Drum Workshop were making inroads into the pedal market, this was considered state-of-the-art – and it’s still a much-favoured drive system today.

The footboard itself, is total DW 5000, through-and-through. The original thinner shape which still adorns some of the 5000 series pedals today, so popular, DW had to bring it back to appease the customers who didn’t like the extra chunk of the 9000 footboard shape. If only the footplate was sprayed red to match the origins of the footboard! But we are in entry-level territory but even then, this pedal performs exceptionally well, out of the box.

The DW 2000 double pedal even takes on the single-post casting for the slave unit, first introduced to the 5000 series in the early 1990s and remaining a design favourite across the entire DW pedal range.

The beaters are the classic DW ‘101’ style with felt on one side and hard plastic on the other, giving you a choice of feel and sound. The footplates are fitted with Velcro strips and have retractable spikes, both features which will help keep pedal and Bass Drum firmly rooted to a carpeted surface. The bearing spring rocker assembly is another hand-me-down from DW’s high-end pedals, complete with a printed adjustment-scale for setting the beater angle. You can even adjust the footboard height by moving the chain across 7 adjustment points on the Cam (please see a video about how to remove a Master Link from a chain-drive pedal before making footboard-height adjustments).

For drummers on a budget, the DW 2000 double pedal is the best way of experiencing a pedal born from true USA engineering which has stood the test of time.
