Promark Simon Phillips Signature Drumsticks

Simon Phillips needs no introduction – and nor should the Promark Simon Phillips signature drumsticks! But hey-ho, there’s loadsa new kids on the block these days (AKA ‘YouTube’ drummers) and it’s important not to forget where British drummers came from. His biography is well documented and he likely came to more world-wide attention when he stepped into the late Jeff Porcaro‘s drum-seat with Toto. So it’s no coincidence his ‘707’ model drumstick is a staple favourite of many players.

Each Promark signature drumstick comes from the exact specifications as required by the artist, but Simon’s started out as Promark’s ‘Jazz-Rock 707’ model which have been refined to what we see today. The hickory Promark Simon Phillips stick of today has a diameter of .551″ and a length of 16¼” with a longer taper finished with a round wood tip. The original ‘707’ models had a much bigger ball-shaped tip and Simon’s stick has shrunk these somewhat. The end result is an extremely responsive and natural-feeling stick, very similar to the Promark 747 weight. Many drummers pick up a pair and can’t believe how good they feel, often resulting in a pairing for life – a lot like what happened to Simon:
