Promark 747 Drumsticks in their Various Flavours!
Promark 747 sticks probably came to widespread attention back in the late 1970s because of their association with the sadly missed Neil Peart and his ground-breaking work with Rush. Whilst Promark continue to issue a 747 drumstick with Neil’s signature, the Promark 747 drumstick range has been expanded to embrace some of Promark’s newer innovations in stick manufacturing (shown in the video below).
There’s been a few more advances in technology since Mr Peart first picked up his first set of 747s!
The dimensions for Promark 747 sticks are currently set at a diameter of .551″ and 16¼” in length which puts them in the ball-park stick-weight of a standard Promark 5A (other manufacturer’s 5A models will vary).

Classic Forward American Hickory
Hickory is by far, the most popular wood choice for drumsticks due to its resilience, responsiveness, durability, and classic feel. Promark’s ‘Forward’ series drumsticks feature a forward-weighted design and an oval shaped tip which delivers increased force into the playing surface.
Classic Attack Shira Kashi Oak
Promark have always been synonymous with oak drumsticks (remember the Sumo wrestler printed on the shaft as well?) and their associated extra longevity. Oak has a naturally denser grain making it slightly heavier in the hand and a go-to choice for Metal and Rock players.
Classic Forward ‘Raw’ Hickory
Another hickory drumstick with an oval tip but this time, with a simple sanded finish. No more reaching for the sandpaper when Promark’s ‘‘Raw’ finish can save you the hassle!
Classic Forward ‘FireGrain’ Hickory
Benefiting from Promark’s patented ‘FireGrain’ heat-tempering process, this oval tip stick is made of hickory hardened by heat. This is a great alternative if you don’t like the extra weight of oak but need the same durability.
All Promark 747 drumsticks are designed, engineered, and manufactured in the USA at their Texas facility, to the most stringent quality controls in the industry, delivering a consistency and quality throughout every model, from the bottom of the shaft, to the end of the tip (stop it please Finbarr). Yes, we known Promark aren’t the cheapest drumstick brand around, but they are certainly amongst the most durable and very, very popular with our customers. “Buy cheap, buy twice!” – as the saying goes…
