Vintage 1977 Ludwig 14″ x 5″ Acrolite LM404 Snare Drum
Dry, warm and a sound like no other! “There’s just no drums that sound like these old Luddies.” …is what ADC Nick said when we found him playing this drum, after he had gone upstairs to ‘brew his cafetiere’. There is a lot of truth to that. A perfect balance of a woody timbre with the cut and projection you would expect from a metal snare drum. But they’re not a one-trick-pony. Want it woodier? Pick a Powerstroke 3 maybe and pair it with a set of Canopus Vintage Dry Wires. Want more bite? More of a metal shell sound? Lash an Ambassador on there and tune it medium-high. These drums are that versatile. Obviously, being an Acrolite, the same shell as the legendary Luddy 400 (world’s most recorded snare drum) but with two fewer lugs, it’s easier to go down the woodier tone path. This particular drum sits well low but we decided to take it medium-high as that seems to be the sweet-spot for you guys. Guess the lucky new owner of this drum will find out all about it but if you’re curious and wish to hear how we’ve got it, go check our Instagram page (adc_drums) for a quick video. Brilliant snare drum, great condition and that killer classic Ludwig sound.
