Evans SoundOff 24″ Mesh Bass Drum Head

Mesh drum heads are all the rage for home-practice and an Evans SoundOff 24″ Bass Drum head can reduce the sound of an acoustic Bass Drum by up to 95%!

Evans have apparently being mesh heads for electronic drum companies for a number of years – but without the Evans logo stamped on the surface. They have now decided to offer their mesh heads for loyal Evans drum head customers who want a mesh head but don’t want to break their brand loyalty. So here we have, the Evans SoundOff mesh drum head range.

Although Evans have made unbranded mesh heads for electronic drums, Evans SoundOff heads are only 1-ply and therefore, we would not recommend them for acoustic-electronic conversions. However, if you own an electronic drum-set fitted with 1-ply mesh heads then the design of the pads/module are obviously optimised for triggering 1-ply heads. Having said that, Evans SoundOff heads will deliver the extra surface vibration desired when using externally mounted triggers on an acoustic drum. But if you’re thinking about using them with internally mounted triggers, then you really need a 2-ply head, minimum (better to use 3-ply for most accurate internal triggering).

We really believe these heads are best used for attenuating the volume of acoustic drums and when fitted to the batter-sides, they will not only make your drum set home/neighbour-friendly, but they also feel really good to play. If you go the extra mile and fit them top and bottom on your Snare and Toms, you will need neighbours with the hearing of a bat to generate noise complaints!

As a Bass Drum batter-side head and with normal internal dampening, this Evans SoundOff 24″ Bass Drum head will reduce the normal rumble and vibration without affecting the feel of your beater making contact with the head. We would strongly advise you stick a Bass Drum beater-pad where the beater makes contact in order to preserve longevity and further enhance the playing feel.

Remember, mesh is not indestructible and mesh drum heads are susceptible to normal wear & tear, just like any other drum head. But at the end of the day, these heads will happily give up their lives to allow you to practice at home!
