The Gretsch Full Range Aluminium Snare drum has the unique sonic qualities only available by blending an Aluminium shell with wooden hoops.
With its thin, brushed Aluminium shell, the Gretsch Gold Series Aluminium Snare drum creates a drier, more sensitive tone that those Ludwig 400 owners will already be familiar with. A more focused tone with less overtones sets up the main body of the Aluminium shell sound; but by introducing a pair of 13-ply Rock Maple Hoops into the equation, a sonic curve-ball gets thrown in and suddenly…you get a sharp, tonal contrast with deep, earthy, warm timbres and explosive cross-stick clicks. It almost shouldn’t work – but it does…very, very well…indeed.
